Davis, Professor of Civil Engineering, Emeritus, and founding Director of the Institute of Transportation and Traffic Engineering (ITTE), now the Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS), died December 24, 1998, in his sleep in the hospital in Walnut Creek, California; born on July 11, 1905 in Rochester, New York; when he was a teenager his family moved to Southern California, where he completed his high school education in Huntington Park; attended the University of California Berkeley, receiving a B.S. in civil engineering in 1928, and an M.S. in 1930.
